The 28th USSR Football Championship was played from April 10 to November 30, 1966. Dynamo Kiev became the winner of the tournament. Rostov SKA won medals of the USSR Championship for the first and only time in history. For the first and only time in history, Baku "Neftyanik" became the winner of the USSR championship (the highest achievement for all teams of the Azerbaijan SSR).
